Legal Links – March 11, 2016

March 11, 2016

On Fridays, we compile and post Legal Links, a list of legal news, reported cases, community events and topics of interest to Lancaster residents and readers of the Lancaster Law Blog.

 1. Teens Sue For Right to Vote. As the fields narrow for Democrats and Republicans to determine their nominees for the 2016 Presidential Election, a group of 17 year olds have sued the Ohio Secretary of State to restore their right to vote in the primary since they will turn 18 in time to vote in the general election.

Interested in an overview of the development of voting laws in the United States? MassVOTE, a nonprofit organization with a mission of  promoting a culture of active political participation has a comprehensive timeline available here.

2. RIP Ray Tomlinson. Ray Tomlinson, the inventor of email, has passed away at the age of 74.

Another gentleman, Shiva Ayyadurai, appears to be the one of a few people on the planet to dispute that Mr. Tomlinson created email, claiming that he is the inventor. For an interesting counterpoint, check out (you guessed it) www.inventorofemail.com.

3. Southern Lancaster County Business Law Forum. On March 29 between 7:30 and 9:00 am, Russell, Krafft & Gruber will hold its first of four Business Law Forum events at the Quarryville Library. The focus of this session is business incorporation, formation and revisions, and will help business owners and entrepreneurs to understand the myriad of options when it comes to these topics.  Learn more below.
